HISTORY OF SAN JUAN-CANDELARIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

San Juan-Candelaria Elementary School is located in the eastern part of the town, a thickly populated portion of the community.  It is a kilometer away from the town plaza.  It was constructed during the incumbency of Former Representative Alejo Labrador, as a Congressman of Zambales way back 1926-1929.  The construction of the school lobbied for thirty-five thousand pesos ( P 35,000.00) from the congress through Senator Teofilo Sison but it was not given because of the inability of the Municipal Council to follow it up.

The old men of Candelaria, San Juan and some part of the east of Bernabe Street in San Pascual, went to get logs (barker) from Panan and Karediquid Mountain (east of Cadmang) in Cabangan and Yangel, San Felipe.  And when all the needed woods were available, they began constructing, but most of the laborers were from Pampanga.

The building should have been constructed at the east of Bernabe Street in San Pascual but because there were many bamboos, they decided to go southward to the present site.  The lots were owned by Mr. Isidro Navoa, and the families of Mr. Marty Guerero and Mr. Felix Laguitan Sr., this was made possible through a municipal ordinance which provides that a school building maybe erected if
the barrio could avail the necessary materials in construction.

It took several weeks in constructing the building.  When it was completed, the school was named East Central Elementary School.  Then it was changed to San Juan-Candelaria Elementary School, was a token of recognition to the leadership of the men from both barangay who labored for the school.

A part of the lot where the school is located was acquired from the family of Mr. Marty Guerrero in the amount of P 500.00 on March 27, 1975.  This was made possible thru the efforts of the PTA President Dr. Mariano Abad and Brgy. Capt. Victorio Resolme of Brgy. San Juan and Brgy. Capt. Feliciano Farin of Brgy. Candelaria. Mr. Apolonio Farrales, who was then Head Teacher was the pioneer of the school.  He was succeeded by such great educators like Mrs. Paz M. Fernandez, Ms. Corazon F. Fuerte,  Mrs. Fe R. Silao, Ph.D., Mrs. Precita Fogata, Ms. Lina Lopez, Mrs. Divina M. Fernandez, Mr. Danilo F. Ragadio, Mrs. Marisa F. Rosete and at present Mrs. Nancy A. Tejero.
